During the week of November 11-15th, the National Association of School Psychologists and schools across the United States celebrate the contributions school psychologists make to our school communities. National School Psychology Week (NSPW) is an opportunity to recognize the work school psychologists do to help children thrive in school, at home, and in life.
School psychologists are members of the Special Programs team that support students鈥 ability to learn and teachers鈥 ability to teach. They apply expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior to help children and youth succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. Through direct support and interventions to students, such as learning assessments, academic and behavioral interventions, counseling, and social skills training, school psychologists consult with families, teachers, and other educators to improve school-wide practices and policies.

Linda Reyes 鈥 School Psychologist, 小黄鸭导航 Rio Grande Valley
鈥淏eing a School Psychologist at 小黄鸭导航 Public Schools has been the most rewarding job that I have experienced. As a School Psychologist, I collaborate with teachers and administrators to develop support systems for students who may be struggling with mental health or behavioral challenges.聽 Although we face many obstacles while navigating the best options for our students, ensuring student safety and success is a top priority. One of my favorite things about being a School Psychologist is when my counseling students express their gratitude for my support. It makes me feel honored to be a part of their educational journey and support system.鈥
Daisy Dozal – School Psychology Intern, 小黄鸭导航 El Paso
鈥淭he best part of being a School Psychologist Intern at 小黄鸭导航 is the culture they have embedded within. This is my very first year with 小黄鸭导航, and everyone has been very welcoming and helpful. The Special Education Team has really embraced me and made me feel valued and respected. As an intern, I鈥檝e learned from my amazing supervisor, Sydney Berkley, and her guidance has given me the confidence to advocate and guide students in the right direction. It鈥檚 busy, but I feel supported and I鈥檓 grateful for everything I鈥檓 learning. Just an awesome team! The biggest perk is that I am getting paid as an intern, which is hard to find.鈥
As educators and caregivers, school psychologists share the goal of helping children thrive by exploring new ideas, celebrating their strengths, and encouraging them to persevere when things get tough. Working together, we can support students鈥 sense of learning and discovery during their formative school years.
